Pet GPS - Solution to Missing Pets?

Reviews, links, and resources about Car Electronics: Car Audio, Car Video, Car GPS and More

Pet GPS are the latest solution for missing pets. More than 2 million pets are lost or stolen in the US every year. With advancing technologies, different solutions have emerged over time for loss prevention and recovery of pets.

Microchips themselves cannot locate a pet. The pet has to be found and then scanned for this technology to be useful. All pets should be microchipped as this is a great back up for other devices available.

Tracking devices are also available. These are normally attached to the pet by a collar or harness. The tracking system is made up of a transmitter on the pet, and a portable receiver with antenna.

Due to the small size of the transmitter, this solution is adaptable for smaller pets.

Pet GPS are more detailed than tracking devices in that they pinpoint the location of the pet with relative accuracy. They can also reveal the velocity and direction the pet is travelling in. They operate using a combination of GPS and radio or cell phone frequencies. Some pet GPS function by transmitting the location of the pet to a central station. The station will then alert the owner by sms, email, or website as to the location or address of the pet . The device will then show the location of the pet in relation to the receiver.

Pet GPS Finds Your Pet Before You Know it is Gone

Pets are part of the family, not just some animal.

There are a lot of different types of pet GPS to choose from but they will all have a transmitter that stays on your pet, usually on a collar.

The transmitters will send you a message when your pet is not where it is supposed and give you its location.

Different models of pet tracking devices use different technology to send signals.

Others use cell phone modems to transmit their information.

GPS technology is used in most brands of pet tracking devices.

There is not yet agreement over how well GPS works in the tracking of pets. Many say that, if your pet is stolen, the thief will just take off the collar right away so you will have no useful information. However, if it is not stolen, and has run away or gotten lost, this technology can help to get your pet back quickly and safely.

Even if they wear out before you find your pet, you will at least know where it was heading.

Often, pet GPS devices are compared and contrasted with the pet chip. Although the pet microchip is sometimes called a GPS chip, they do not actually use that technology.

Is a pet GPS a smart purchase for you and your furry friend? That is partly dependent on your pet.
